Hi, I’m Kirsty!

Here’s a quick behind-the-scenes of me — and, more importantly, how I came to love travel. Up until the age of 19, I’d never really found the thing for me, the thing I felt truly passionate about. I grew up in a small Scottish town and, apart from the occasional family holiday to Spain, I hadn’t seen much of the world. When it came time to choose a university path, I picked a science degree — not because I loved it, but because I was decent at the subject and my siblings had done the same. So I followed in their footsteps, almost step for step.

Then one day, in my second year of university, a friend casually mentioned she was thinking of signing up for a six-week volunteering trip to Malawi. On a whim, I decided to join her. Saying that this trip changed everything is an understatement. That’s where I discovered my passion — exploring the world and connecting with people from all walks of life. It’s hard to put into words the feeling travel gives me.

That one trip has paved the way to me visiting 31 countries across 4 continents and gave me so many incredible experiences that pushed me way outside my comfort zone — from bungee jumping in Thailand to paragliding in Lima. I managed many of those trips while still at university, working a minimum-wage, part-time job.

Looking back, I realise that if I hadn’t taken that leap, I might never have discovered this passion, or how accessible travel can be when you get creative. That’s exactly why I started this blog. I launched it to share my love of travel through tips, itineraries, and real-life stories from my own experiences.

My mission? To help you experience how travel can shift your perspective, build confidence, and spark genuine connection, all without needing a luxury budget. I want to show that incredible adventures are within reach for anyone. Whether you’re saving for your first trip or just daydreaming through your lunch break, I hope to get you booking the flight, packing your bags, and going on your next adventure!

A little about me…

Why ‘Postcards from Kirsty’?

I chose the name Postcards from Kirsty for sentimental reasons. No matter where I’m travelling – whether it’s the top of N Seoul Tower in South Korea or the colourful cliffs of Manarola in Italy – I always find a postcard and send it home to my Gran and my parents in Scotland.

There’s something so special about putting pen to paper. It feels more personal and meaningful than a quick text, and over time, those postcards have become little keepsakes for me – snapshots of moments I might’ve otherwise forgotten.

Reading them back years later brings me right back to those places and that moment in time. That’s what this blog is about, too – capturing memories, moments, stories, and tips from the road and sharing them, one postcard at a time.
