Taxi and Private Transfers from Glasgow Airport to the City Centre

For maximum comfort and convenience,ย taking a taxi from Glasgow Airport to the city centreย is a great choice. Fares usually range fromย ยฃ20โ€“ยฃ30ย โ€” roughly double the price of the bus โ€” but itโ€™s hard to beat being dropped off right at your hotel door (and having the whole car to yourself!).

Duringย off-peak times, the journey takes aroundย 15โ€“20 minutes, but atย rush hour, it can stretch toย 45 minutes or more, so plan ahead if youโ€™ve got reservations or evening plans waiting.

Youโ€™ll find theย airport taxi rank directly outside the terminal, and thereโ€™s no need to pre-book. However, if you prefer peace of mind (or a touch of luxury), you canย pre-book a private transferย for aroundย ยฃ15 per personย โ€” ideal if youโ€™re travelling as a group of six or more.

Youโ€™re not limited to the taxis waiting at the rank โ€“ you can use Uber. Feel free to arrange your own transfer and choose whatever deal works best for you.

And if youโ€™re lucky enough to have a friend in Glasgow, they can pick you up just outside the main terminal. Do note that theย express pick-up zone costs ยฃ6 for up to 15 minutes, with an additionalย ยฃ1 per minuteย after that โ€” so tell them not to hang about!

Bus from Glasgow Airport to the City Centre

To get from Glasgow Airport to the city centre, hop on theย Glasgow Airport Express Service 500, which departs fromย Stance 1ย just outside the terminal.

The bus makes stops atย Bothwell Street,ย North Hanover Street, and finallyย Buchanan Bus Stationย in the city centre โ€” giving you the flexibility to hop off whereverโ€™s most convenient or closest to your hotel.

The journey takes around 15 minutes during off-peak times, but it can double or even triple during rush hour, so try not to cut it too fine.

Tickets cost ยฃ11 one way for adults, or ยฃ17.50 for an open return if youโ€™re heading back to the airport later. You can pay by card or cash directly on the bus.

The service runsย day and night, with frequent departures, so itโ€™s a reliable option no matter what time your flight lands. Just be sure toย check the Glasgow Airport Express Service 500 timetableย before you travel.

๐ŸšŒ If you’re going in the opposite direction from the city centre to Glasgow Airport: You can catch the Glasgow Airport Express service 500 from Stance 46 at Buchanan Bus Station.

Train Options from Glasgow Airport to the City Centre

Getting the train from Glasgow airport to the city centre isn’t the most straightforward option.

Technically, youย canโ€™t get all the way from Glasgow Airport to the city centre by train, so this option involves aย bus-to-train transfer. Honestly, itโ€™s not the most convenient choice, especially when there are simpler, faster ways to travel โ€” but I wanted to include it so you can see all your options.

Hereโ€™s how it works: fromย Glasgow Airport, hop on theย 757 McGillโ€™s busย toย Paisley Gilmour Street Station, then catch aย train to Glasgow Central Station.

The journey takes aroundย 30 minutesย (not counting transfer and waiting times) and costs roughlyย ยฃ11. Considering the bus alone takes less time and costs the same, Iโ€™d personallyย stick to the Glasgow Airport Express Service 500, but itโ€™s good to know the train + bus option exists.

Hire a Car from Glasgow Airport

If you hire a car, you can explore epic places in Scotland like Fort William.

Planning to travel around Scotland? Hiring a car might be your best move. Picking one up at the airport gives you the freedom to explore beyond the city, including the stunning shores of Loch Lomond (just a 30โ€“40 minute drive away), or you could set off on an unforgettable road trip like the NE250 or the iconic NC500.

There are several car rental companies to choose from at Glasgow Airport. Some of which are located in the terminal, and others are located outside to the left when leaving the terminal building, about a 5-minute walk away.

๐Ÿš— If you want to compare car rental companies, then use DiscoverCars or AutoEurope. Both are very reliable websites that will help you find the best car rental deals by comparing the prices and ratings of hundreds of companies.ย

Once youโ€™ve picked your preferred way to travel, a few simple tips can make the journey even smoother:

  • Buy Tickets in Advance:ย Many services offer online booking, saving you both time and sometimes money.

  • Watch the Traffic:ย Glasgow roads can get busy during rush hour, so allow a little extra time if youโ€™re travelling by bus, taxi, or car.
  • Stay Connected:ย Use free airport Wi-Fi to check Uber or live bus schedules for delays.
  • Know Your Stop:ย Whether youโ€™re heading to Buchanan Street or your hotel, double-check the nearest drop-off point to avoid unnecessary walking.
